AEP's A. Ray King Transmission Training Center is a 31,561-square-foot facility designed to enable year-round training for all three transmission skill sets – transmission line, station and protection and control. It boasts an array of state-of-the-art equipment for hands-on training including:
- A 14-acre outdoor training area that features transmission line structures to represent the various types of transmission configurations in the AEP system.
- An indoor training bay and four large, multi-use classrooms enable year-round training on transmission equipment.
- A fully operational, low-voltage transmission substation with both digital and electromechanical relay protection.
- State-of-the-art videoconferencing equipment that allows for distance training.
