High-voltage training is available from AEP, and typically includes work from 40kV through 765kV. Transmission courses vary from one-day specialized training to five-day skill-level programs.

Training for Transmission line workers is divided into a series of modules, beginning with the D series (apprentice) and ending with the A series (journeyman). Students will attend a one-week session about every six months. This allows the student to develop a particular skill prior to the next level of training.

Training is a compilation of classroom and field-oriented instruction. Students are required to pass a written evaluation as well as a competency skill demonstration to successfully complete each course.

The Transmission training is broken down into the following series as well as corresponding training topics. Click on the appropriate level to view the available options.
